Marketing guru behind "positioning" to speak at Fairfield University's Charles F. Dolan School of Business

Jack Trout, president of the marketing firm Trout & Partners, will present a lecture on marketing, "Differentiate or Die," on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. in the dining room of the Charles F. Dolan School of Business at Fairfield University. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Fairfield University Marketing Club.

Mr. Trout is co-author of the bedrock marketing text, "Positioning: The Battle for Your Mind," which was published in 1980. He has co-authored eight other marketing texts, including "Marketing Warfare," and "The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing." Mr. Trout just published "A Genie's Wisdom," which answers 10 important questions in marketing.

Mr. Trout got his start in the advertising department of General Electric. He went on to become a divisional advertising manager at Uniroyal, before joining Al Ries, his co-author on many texts, in the advertising agency and marketing strategy firm where they worked together for more than 26 years.

Mr. Trout is now president of Trout and Partners, a prestigious marketing firm based in Greenwich, which has offices in more than 13 countries. The firm manages a global network of experts that has done work for numerous Fortune 500 companies, including AT&T, Burger King, Merrill Lynch, and Procter & Gamble.
