University College at Fairfield University offers seminars on Finance and Personal Enrichment

University College at Fairfield University will host three workshops on finance and personal enrichment this fall.

"A Money Journey: Life, Money, Values," will run on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants will examine their relationships with money and learn to recognize their "money messages" and their powerful effect on decisions. Participants will analyze financial facts to see how they earn, share, use, and spend money. They will create an action plan for change: one that aligns their financial lives and their values. The workshop, which will be run by author and financial planner Rosemary Williams, will include teaching sessions, group work, interactive exercises, and a money autobiography.

"The act of using money is a vote. When we use our 'vote' it's important that our financial values and spiritual vision are together so our choices are in line with who we really are and what we want to create for ourselves, families, communities and the world we live in. This means understanding resources and being intentional about choices," said Williams, a Fairfield resident and author of "A Woman's Book of Money & Spiritual Vision." A former banker, Williams is director of Women's Perspective, a nonprofit organization ( www.womensperspective.org ).

"Preserving Your Legacy," a dual seminar program covering estate conservation planning and sophisticated wealth transfer strategies for maximizing assets for the future, will run on three Thursdays, (Sept. 25, Oct. 9, and Oct. 16) from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants will learn to take control of their legacies by understanding what to do now to reduce taxes and transfer assets according to their wishes. They will learn techniques for protecting their legacies through estate planning and leveraging strategies.

Marty O'Neill, a certified financial planner with State Farm Insurance in Norwalk, will run the lectures.

"People need to be informed on how proper planning today can transfer assets efficiently and improper or no planning can result in significant transfer taxes, delays and court costs," said O'Neill, a Norwalk resident who has been lecturing on estate planning since 1997.

The series will round out with "Celebrating Midlife Discoveries," which runs on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The workshop will assist participants in embracing and celebrating the possibilities that midlife offers. Master certified personal and business coach Carole Jacoby, M.Ed., M.S., will help participants explore and celebrate this new phase in life. Through interactive exercises, group discussions and quite reflection time, participants will consider such questions as: Who am I becoming? What will my legacy be? How will my wisdom be heard and seen? What do I need to reconnect with to feel more authentic and alive at this stage of my life? What values must I honor now? How can I become a wise and effective agent of change in my family, relationships, community, and the world? Participants will leave the seminar with a vision and preliminary plan of action that will support midlife becoming the best part of their life!

"Midlife is a wake-up call a time to reevaluate where you stand in your life; a time when you become the person you have always wanted to be. This workshop addresses the spiritual, emotional and psychological components of this transition. Women often leave the workshop adopting new and positive beliefs about this passage in their life," said Jacoby, a master certified coach and President of LifeVisions, an achievement-oriented coaching company based in Orange. Jacoby is also a resident of Orange.

The workshops are $99 each. To register by phone, call (203) 254-4288. For more information call (203) 254-4307 or visit University College at www.fairfield.edu.
