Fairfield University draws from largest pool yet; Class of 2007 includes three sets of twins | Press Releases

Fairfield University will welcome a class of 794 freshmen on Sunday, drawn from a record 7,655 applications. An additional 71 students are transferring to Fairfield.

Among the other statistics that distinguish the members of the class: they enjoy an average rank in the top 15 percent of their high school class and 74 percent come from the top 25 percent. Fifty-four percent have SATs of 1200 or higher and the average SAT is 1197. Fairfield's admit rate for the class was 49 percent, placing it among the top eight percent of four-year colleges and universities in the nation with this level of selectivity.

Eleven members of the class were valedictorians or salutatorians and over 60 percent were involved in community service. Over 15% held significant leadership positions, such as Class President, Student Council President, Eagle Scout, Gold Award Recipient (Girl Scout), and Editor of the Yearbook or Newspaper.

Among the class members are three sets of twins, coming from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. They will join a student body with six other sets of twins and a set of triplets.

The freshman class comes from 23 states in all, including Maine, California, Illinois, Texas, Florida and Oregon, along with Honduras, Puerto Rico, England, The Netherlands and Canada.
