Image: Pied Piper Follow the pied piper through hamelin town as Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts presents a new theatrical twist on this classic Robert Browning poem. "The Pied Piper," a Missoula Children's Theatre (MCT) production, will be presented Friday, Aug. 23 at 7:30 p.m.

Wearing a red-and-yellow cape and carrying a magic flute, the Piper Piper arrives to save a town overrun by ravenous rats in this original adaptation by MCT founder James Caron. Featured characters include: the Mayor's Son, the Mayor's Daughter, the Council, the Cooks, the Townspeople and the troublesome Rats. Most roles are played by area young people in grades 1-12 who are enrolled in the Quick Center's Children's Summer Theatre Camp.

The camp, now in its 13th season, offers six weekly sessions, each culminating in a Friday evening production. "The Pied Piper" is the final production of the summer season. In the week leading up to the performance, the young people rehearse their roles with directors from MCT, the country's preeminent professional children's theatre company. In addition, they take workshops in theater movement, theater improvisation, arts & crafts and more. The workshops are led by professionals who are brought in as part of the Quick Center children's summer program.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for children. Discounted group rates and subscriptions are available. For tickets, call (203) 254-4010 or toll free 1-877-ARTS-396 or visit the website, www.quickcenter.com.
