James O'Brien, right, of Fairfield, Conn., met recently with Katherine Manning of Mattapoisett, Mass., this year's recipient of the Jamie and Laura O'Brien Scholarship at Fairfield University. Mr. O'Brien and his brothers, William and Richard, established the scholarship to relieve the economic strain on families who care for a child with special needs. The scholarship honors two of William's children. Katherine is a sophomore majoring in international studies.
