Robert S. Connolly cited by Fairfield University for excellence in the study of British History

Robert Connolly of White Plains, N.Y., who graduated from Fairfield University on May 20 with a degree in History, received the Rev. James M. Murphy, S.J., Award for Excellence in the Study of British History.

Connolly won the award for his paper, "Oliver Cromwell and 'The Righteous Judgment of God' Upon Irish Catholics," written for a seminar on Religious Outsiders in Early Modern Europe. In his treatise, Connolly considered Cromwell's particular religious cosmology and how it led him to an often brutal policy toward the Irish.

Connolly, who had a double minor in education and peace and justice, plans to teach history in an area school system next year.
