Quick Center and Missoula Theatre present "Treasure Island"

Quick Center for the Arts presents the Missoula Children's Theatre (MCT) third production of the summer, "Treasure Island," on Friday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m. in the Quick Center's Kelley Theatre. This production, written and conceived by MCT's James Caron, is an original adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel.

Young Jim Hawkins, a mischievous lad, lives with his mother and six sisters in a seaside village on the coast of Maine. Longing for adventure Jim comes under the hypnotic spell of the legendary pirate, Long John Silver. While waiting tables in the family inn, Jim finds a treasure map and, with the villainous Silver as his seeming mentor, sails away on uncharted seas accompanied by his ruffian friends who serve as cabin assistants for Silver and his band of hilarious, though unsavory, pirates. True colors are revealed on the island in our hero's quest for the proverbial happy ending.

The nation's preeminent professional children's theater company, Missoula Children's Theatre is a nonprofit organization based in Missoula, Montana. It has been touring extensively throughout the United States and abroad for 27 years, serving more than 300 communities each year.

A variety of parts for children in grades 1-12 is provided in each production, and middle and high school students are encouraged to audition for leading roles. The children attending the Quick Center's Summer Theatre camp for the week prior to the production play most roles and also attend workshops in dance, theater, puppetry, arts and crafts and creative movement as part of the camp experience.

"Treasure Island" promises to be a fun-filled event for the whole family. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for children and seniors. For tickets, call the box office at (203) 254-4010 or toll-free at 1-877-ARTS-396.
