Israeli Dance Company Brings New Work to the Quick Center

The Vertigo Dance Company will perform VERTIGO 20 at Fairfield University’s Quick Center for the Arts on Friday, November 4 at 8 p.m. VERTIGO 20 premiered in Tel Aviv in celebration of the company’s 20th anniversary and the Quick Center performance will be one of the rare opportunities for U.S. audiences to see the work as part of a global tour.

Hailing from some of Israel’s most respected dance companies, Noa Wertheim and Adi Sha’al’s first professional collaboration has led to VERTIGO 20, which revisits the company’s own unique history and development throughout the past two decades as well as the choreographer’s own personal struggles as a wife, mother and one of four daughters. In VERTIGO 20, Wertheim follows the trail of pebbles she’s laid over this 20-year history, as if re-deciphering the secret of time.

Having developed a distinct artistic language that emphasizes the link between art and earth, Vertigo Dance Company’s works challenge and create an awareness to the limits of the human body. Committed to the intersections of creativity, social responsibility and ecological sustainability, the company is celebrated as much for their sustainable lifestyle as they are for their artistic innovation. This commitment to their community and the earth is reflected in their movement, creating work that is both grounded and enchanting as dancers seem to float in this otherworldly setting.

The Vertigo Dance Company has performed in festivals in Israel and all around the world where they have gained recognition and fame for their community-centered style and ecological focus. VERTIGO 20 showcases one of their largest productions, presenting a 12-person cast and full stage set design. Their dance combines influences from ballet, release technique, contact improvisation and martial arts.

VERTIGO 20 is a coproduction of the Vertigo Dance Company and Fondazione Campania dei Festival - Teatro Festival Italia.

The Vertigo Dance Company will perform VERTIGO 20 at the Quick Center for the Arts on Friday, Nov. 4 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $45, $35 | $27 for Quick Center Members, and are available at quickcenter.com or by calling the Box Office at 203-254-4010.
