Run with the Stags This Summer

ON YOUR MARK, GET SET, GO!

Fairfield University is once again a proud sponsor of the Faxon Law Fairfield Half Marathon & 5K taking place on June 25 and June 26, 2016.

This year the race has introduced the Lucas Challenge. That’s right! Our very own Lucas the Stag is challenging runners to complete both the Half Marathon and the 5K, which requires running 16.2 miles in 24 hours. Those who complete this challenge will receive a tech tee, medal, custom colored bib and a bottle of Henkell Sparkling Wine.

Both of these races are popular with our Stag community. We are proud to say that many of us race to the finish line, competing in the Half Marathon, 5K, or both, while others join us at the cheer station located on Edward Street. If you would like to help Lucas and fellow Stags cheer on runners at our cheer station, please contact pr@fairfield.edu.

If you want to join the race and you are family, friend, faculty, staff, alumni, or a student, you can receive a $5.00 discount by using the code FAIRFIELDU2016. If you are already signed up for the race but would like to take advantage of this discount, please contact Maggie Fritter.

According to race organizers, “The Fairfield Road Races are a unique community event in Fairfield, Connecticut with a celebrated history of regional participation and broad-based community support. The races have gained national acclaim and a large international following. The half marathon (13.1 miles) and the 5K (3.1 miles) field over 6,000 runners, including international stars and runners from across the country. Several thousand volunteers and spectators line the course annually to support the runners.”

The Half Marathon race started with just 200 runners and has become one of the premier running events in the United States, selling out each year with 4500 participants. Accolades for the race include being two-time host of the U.S. Women’s National Half Marathon Championship, three-time host of the National Masters’ Half Marathon Championship, and routinely selected as one of the country’s top road races by Runner’s World magazine.

The 5K race was added to the schedule in 1995 to encourage more casual runners to participate. The 5K has now become a popular family event and a warm-up run on Saturday for Half Marathon participants running the following day. The newest edition, implemented this year is the Lucas Challenge.
