Potential Employers Rate Fairfield Students as “Impressive”

The University’s recent Career & Internship Fair attracted 117 employers to the Quick Recreation Complex, where they met with more than 500 students and alumni throughout the day. Resumes and business cards were exchanged—hopefully leading to career-building internships and good jobs.

Many of the attending students had taken advantage of Fairfield’s Career Planning Center’s services, which include skill-building in resume development and interviewing preparation. In post-event evaluations, employers noted that Fairfield students overall were impressive, career focused, prepared and professionally dressed.

Some of the new participants this year included BIC Corporation, Stanley Black & Decker, Diageo, Devries Global, Brooklyn Jesuit Prep and State of CT Judicial Branch Experiential Learning. BIC Corporation was very excited about the caliber of students they met, and in particular about the potential for a partnership with the School of Engineering as their need for mechanical engineers grows.

Fidelity was also very pleased with the candidates they saw at the Career Fair. They received a “stack of excellent resumes” that they’ll be reviewing and eventually contacting for interviews for open positions. Stanley Black & Decker already posted an entry-level position on Stags4Hire, and they plan on returning to campus for an on-campus interview day in late March. Devries Global and ICR, both respected PR firms, are looking to hire upcoming graduates as well as interns and think highly of Fairfield students.

Atlas Holdings said they most impressed with the students who had done their homework, visited their website and came prepared with specific questions about them. Hooplaha ~ Life with a Smile, a digital brand looking for social media interns and video production students, stated that 95% of the students were well-dressed, able to communicate effectively, and brought copies of their resumes with them.

“I found the Career Fair to be a beneficial and rewarding experience, for it allowed me to start networking with employment representatives, and gave me the opportunity to learn more about internship possibilities!” Nicole Lambi ’17

“Despite how overwhelming it felt to walk into the Rec Plex and see all of these businesses, the recruiters are all ‘real people’ and friendly. They were really easy to talk to and it was nice to realize how much potential I do have in the future.” Daniel Buono ’17

“I always find the Career Fair extremely valuable. I learned a lot about different marketing agencies I would be interested in working for that I didn't know existed previous to the fair.” Vanessa Salvaggio ’16

“Attending the Career Fair has broadened my knowledge on the various job/internship opportunities that the companies have to offer.”  Monica Felix ’16
