Head Coach Joe Frager with 150th Win

On the back of two quality wins at home last week, Head Coach Joe Frager, who has built the Fairfield basketball program around defense and the ability to out work the opponent, earned his 149th and 150th victories at the helm of the Stags (9-12, 8-4 MAAC).

The MAAC has rewarded the Stags’ individual performances by naming Samantha Cooper the league’s Player of the Week for the first time in her career and Casey Smith the MAAC Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season. It is the first time the Stags have swept the weekly awards since 2011.

Samantha Cooper set a couple of career-highs in Fairfield's 2-0 week. In the win against Iona, Cooper tallied a career-high 22 points, shot 64 percent, and 86 percent from the line, which were personal bests. In the win against Monmouth, Cooper grabbed a personal-best 14 rebounds, the most by a Stags player this season. For the week, she averaged 15 points, 10.5 boards, three assists, and shot 44 percent from the field.

Casey Smith tallied double digits scoring in both of Fairfield's two wins this week. She was the star in the win against Iona, tallying her first career double-double with 20 points, and a personal best in rebounds (10) and assists (six) all without committing a turnover. For the week, Smith averaged 17 points, six rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and shot 52 percent from the floor. It is the fourth weekly award for Smith this season.

The Stags, who have won four of their last five games, are currently in a tie for third-place with Iona. Fairfield will embark on their longest road trip of the MAAC season, heading to Buffalo, N.Y. to take on Canisius on Thursday at 11am.
