Fairfield Half Marathon and 5K This Weekend, June 24 & 25
Fairfield University is once again a proud sponsor of this weekend's Faxon Law Fairfield Half Marathon and 5K (Saturday, June, 24 and Sunday, June 25, 2017).
This year, there is even more to be excited about as the University will also serve as the title sponsor for the new Fairfield University Lil’ Stags Kids Fun Run, a half-mile race for children ages 4-12 years old that will take place this Saturday.
Students, alumni, family members, friends, or faculty/staff of Fairfield University interested in running in either the half marathon or the 5K can receive a $5.00 discount by using the code FAIRFIELDU2017 upon registering. Members of the Fairfield Prep community are also able to receive a $5.00 discount by using the code PREP2017.
Children ages 4 to 12 of Fairfield town residents, Fairfield University alumni, and University faculty/staff can run the Lil' Stags Kids Fun Run complementary of Fairfield University by registering using the code FAIRFIELDKIDS. If you have already signed up for the race but would like to take advantage of the discount, please contact Maggie Fritter.
According to race organizers, “The Fairfield Road Races are a unique community event in Fairfield, Conn., with a celebrated history of regional participation and broad-based community support. The races have gained national acclaim and a large international following. The half marathon (13.1 miles) and the 5K (3.1 miles) field over 6,000 runners, including international stars and runners from across the country. Several thousand volunteers and spectators line the course annually to support the runners.”
The Half Marathon race started with just 200 runners and has become one of the premier running events in the United States, selling out each year with 4,500 participants. Accolades for the race include being two-time host of the U.S. Women’s National Half Marathon Championship, three-time host of the National Masters’ Half Marathon Championship, and it has been routinely selected as one of the country’s top road races by Runner’s World magazine.
The 5K race was added to the schedule in 1995 to encourage more casual runners to participate. The 5K has now become a popular family event and a warm-up run on Saturday for Half Marathon participants running the following day.
