Men’s Lacrosse, Baseball Earn National Preseason Recognition

The Fairfield University men’s lacrosse and baseball teams have both earned national recognition in advance of their upcoming 2017 seasons. The men’s lacrosse program has been ranked No. 17 in the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook and No. 20 in the USILA Coaches Poll, while the baseball team is unranked but receiving votes in the Collegiate Baseball preseason poll.

Entering its ninth year led by Head Coach Andy Copelan, Fairfield men’s lacrosse is coming off of a 9-8 season – its fifth straight winning campaign – that culminated with the team’s first-ever trip to the CAA Championship Game. The Stags, who return 30 student-athletes from last spring’s club, are one of five teams in the nation to have won three consecutive conference regular season titles.

Individually, Fairfield also had three student-athletes selected as Preseason All-Americans by Inside Lacrosse. Colin Burke '19 was tabbed as Third Team All-America, while Tyler Behring '17 Andrew Eidenshink '17 both collected All-America Honorable Mention distinctions.

The Stags’ 2017 campaign – their 25th varsity season – is set to begin on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Richmond with the home opener on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium slated for Saturday, Feb. 25 against visiting Rutgers. Season and single-game ticket packages, VIP suite rentals and game-day experiences are now available for the 2017 season. Click here for more information.

Fairfield baseball received votes on the national ledger after winning the 2016 MAAC Championship and making the program’s first-ever appearance in the NCAA postseason. Head Coach Bill Currier’s Stags tied a program record with 32 victories en route to the MAAC crown last spring.

Fairfield begins its 2017 season in Beaumont, Texas for a four-game series at Lamar on Feb. 24-26. The Stags’ first game on the new Alumni Diamond will be a Tuesday, March 21 visit from St. John’s. Both the Cardinals and Red Storm joined the Stags as programs receiving votes in the national preseason poll.
