Free Admission for Fairfield Students to the 11 a.m. Meeting With Iona
After winning a share of its 11th Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Regular Season Championship, Fairfield University Women’s Lacrosse enters the conference postseason as the #3 seed. The Stags are set to host #6 Iona on campus this Saturday, April 28 on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium in a MAAC championship first round matchup.
Tickets are on sale now through the MAAC ticketing site. All current Fairfield students will receive free admission with a valid StagCard.
Head Coach Laura Field’s Stags have been led offensively by Brenna Connolly ’18, who has set program records for assists both in a single-season (36) and in a career (75). Her 65 total points this spring rank seventh in Fairfield single-season history. Olivia Russell ’18 and Taylor Mitchell ’19 share the team lead with 32 goals apiece this season.
On the defensive end, Paulina DiFatta ’20 ranks among the MAAC’s leading goalkeepers with 10.19 saves per game and a .506 save percentage. With Wednesday’s victory at Manhattan, DiFatta joined Katie Keenan '13 as the only Stags to earn 10 wins in the cage in their first active seasons. The defense in front of DiFatta is led by Katie FitzPatrick ’18, Erin Bauman ’18, Megan Beach ’19, Maggie Reynolds ’21, and Erin Mammele ’19, who has established new single-season (103) and career (197) program records in draw controls this spring.
The winner of Saturday’s game advances to MAAC Championship Weekend, which will be hosted at top-seeded Marist. Should the Stags advance, they will play #2 Monmouth in the semifinal round on Thursday, May 3 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The 2018 MAAC Championship Game will be held on Saturday, May 5.
