Fairfield to Host NCAA Championships in Men’s Lacrosse, Men’s Ice Hockey

Fairfield University has been selected by the NCAA to host four NCAA Championship events. Fairfield will co-host an NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Regional with Yale in 2018 at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport and has been tabbed to host three NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship events at Rentschler Field in East Hartford beginning in 2019.

The 2018 NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Regional marks the fifth time that Fairfield and Yale have co-hosted the event. The two schools also brought the regional to the state of Connecticut in 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2014.

“We are pleased to have the opportunity to host the best of NCAA men’s ice hockey to Fairfield County,” Fairfield University Director of Athletics Gene Doris said. “I am also excited to co-host this event with Yale University once again. I think we are fortunate to have a venue like Webster Bank Arena which has continually proven that it is to be one of the best venues for NCAA championships.”

Webster Bank Arena has often brought sold-out or near-capacity crowds in each of the NCAA events it has hosted since 2004. In addition to men’s ice hockey, the Arena has also served as host venue for women’s basketball first and second rounds and regional tournaments.

Fairfield will host three NCAA Men’s Lacrosse championship events between 2019 and 2022, including the 2021 and 2022 NCAA Division I, II and III Men’s Lacrosse Championship, at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field. Fairfield will also host the 2019 NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Quarterfinals.

“I am excited that the NCAA has given us an opportunity to host the men’s lacrosse quarterfinals and championships in the state of Connecticut,” Doris said. “The support for these events has been overwhelming. We are fortunate to host this event at a first-class facility like Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field.  I look forward to providing the coaches, student-athletes and all lacrosse fans a memorable experience.”

Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field is Connecticut’s leading sports and entertainment stadium. Managed by Spectra Venue Management, the stadium features 38,000 seats and is the premier regional location for large outdoor sports and entertainment events.

Additional information regarding tickets and other information for all of these upcoming NCAA Championship events will be posted when available on the websites of the NCAA Championships and Fairfield University Athletics.
