Anthony Bruno has been named the Head Coach of the Fairfield University men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs, as announced by Director of Athletics Gene Doris. Bruno joins the Stags with seven years of collegiate coaching experience, including the past four seasons on the coaching staff at Iona.

Bruno spent three seasons as an assistant coach with the Gaels before being named the Associate Head Coach this past fall. He helped direct new training programs that led to 19 individual records and 41 program records during his time at Iona. Bruno also oversaw the academic progress of Iona’s student-athletes during a time in which the women’s program achieved the nation’s highest GPA in Division I.

“Coach Bruno comes highly recommended from some of the best in the swim coaching profession,” said Doris. “He knows the MAAC and has a reputation among its coaches for raising the level of his swimmers. We look forward to his leadership and future successes he can bring to our swimming and diving programs.”

The Southbury native also coaches at the Westchester Country Club where has worked with all age groups since 2014. Prior to that, Bruno was the Assistant Coach at Wesleyan University from 2010-2013, where he was an integral part of recruiting and coaching for the Cardinals.

As a student-athlete, Bruno twice collected All-America Honorable Mention laurels as a part of the Springfield College 200-meter medley and 400-meter freestyle relay teams. He earned a degree in Movement and Sports Studies from Springfield in 2009.
