Behring Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week — Team Face UMass Saturday
Tyler Behring ’17 made the most of his first two career starts at goalkeeper for the Fairfield University men’s lacrosse team. The sophomore posted a 3.56 goals-against average with a .759 save percentage in two Stags’ victories on March 17 and March 21 en route to multiple national honors.
Behring, who lives in Little Silver, N.J. and attended the Berkshire School in Sheffield, Mass., was selected as the NCAA.com Division I Defensive Player of the Week and Inside Lacrosse Player of the Week in addition to Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week laurels on the heels of his strong performance between the posts. His efforts in goal led the Stags to a road win at Massachusetts-Lowell on Tuesday, March 17 and a Saturday, March 21 victory over nationally-ranked Villanova on Dedication Day at Rafferty Stadium.
Fairfield extended its current winning streak to four games this past Saturday, earning a victory at defending CAA champion Drexel in the first CAA game in program history. Behring made 16 saves – matching his career high established one week earlier against Villanova – in the 7-4 triumph.
The Stags continue CAA action and finish the road portion of their schedule this Saturday, April 4 with a visit to the University of Massachusetts. Fairfield will then conclude the 2015 regular season with three straight CAA contests played on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. Fairfield begins the residency at its new home venue with a visit from Towson on Saturday, April 11. The Stags also host Delaware on Saturday, April 18 and conclude the regular season against CAA preseason favorite Hofstra on Friday, April 24.
