Fairfield University’s School of Engineering has been awarded accreditation through the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) for its Computer Science program.

The School of Engineering’s undergraduate program in Computer Science has been awarded accreditation through the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.

“I want to congratulate all faculty, associates, and staff of the School of Engineering for this great achievement,” said Dean Andres Leonardo Carrano. “In particular, I am grateful to the entire Computer Science and Engineering team for their diligent work in achieving this successful outcome.”

ABET’s Accrediting Commission develops standards to ensure that undergraduate engineering programs produce graduates who are prepared to enter the global workforce where they can lead innovation and emerging technologies while anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public. During the accreditation process, ABET administers a multi-step review process including reviewing program curricula, faculty, facilities, and institutional support. The accreditation was awarded retroactively from October 1, 2019 to include students who already received computer science degrees.

At Fairfield, undergraduate students can pursue multiple degree options as follows: a BS degree in computer science, a BA degree in computer science, or a minor in computer science. Fairfield’s computer science curriculum encompasses a truly unique combination of experiences including experiential hands-on learning, cross-disciplinary engineering exposure, student mentoring, liberal arts core, and academic/research activities and internship opportunities.
