Fairfield University to Host Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, Dec. 6

Bring your family and friends to join Lucas and Santa for the annual tree lighting.

As the most wonderful time of the year descends upon families and friends young and old, Fairfield University will add to the merriment with the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Thursday, December 6 at 6:15 p.m. outside the Egan Chapel of St. Ignatius Loyola. The event is free and open to the public.

The University will welcome the greater Fairfield community with hot chocolate and cookies to warm spirits. University singing groups, The Bensonians and Sweet Harmony, will perform songs of the season. In addition to the tree lighting, Lucas and Santa will join the fun for pictures.

Following the Thursday evening tree lighting, the community is invited to attend the 7 p.m. Men’s Basketball vs. Oakland game in Alumni Hall. The first 100 student attendees will receive Santa hats. Tickets for the game are available on fairfieldstags.com.

Also on December 6, Fairfield’s Jazz Ensemble will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. in Gonzaga Auditorium. Vic Juris, renowned jazz guitarist, will perform alongside students and community members. Tickets are $5 and will be available to purchase at the door. Directed by Fairfield University's Music Program Director Brian Q. Torff, the Jazz Ensemble will lend its improvisational energy to classics from John Coltrane, Wes Montgomery, and Paul Desmond, as well as Aretha Franklin's, "Think", in an arrangement by Joey Barbieri '20. Original compositions by Torff and Barbieri will round out the playlist.

In addition to the on-campus events, be sure to check out the Town of Fairfield Holiday Shop and Stroll. Participating shops in downtown Fairfield will extend business hours and welcome shoppers with complimentary refreshments, and local restaurants will feature dinner or drink specials. Traveling carolers and musicians from local schools will fill the sidewalks with holiday cheer.
