Curtis Cobb ’19 Breaks Fairfield Single-Game Scoring Record

With a nationwide audience tuned in on ESPN3, Curtis Cobb ’19 put on a show on Thursday night in the Bronx, scoring 46 points to break the Fairfield single-game scoring record as the Stags defeated host Manhattan, 97-79, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action. Cobb also tied the MAAC single-game scoring record and equaled the Fairfield single-game three-point record with nine conversions from downtown.

Cobb’s 46 points came on 16-for-23 shooting from the field with a 9-for-13 performance from three-point range and a 5-for-7 day at the free throw line. His 46 points eclipsed the 41 tallies racked up by George Groom ’73 against Assumption on March 6, 1972. With nine three-pointers, Cobb tied the Fairfield record established by Mike Evanovich ’10 in the Stags’ historic comeback win at George Mason in the 2010 CollegeInsider.com Tournament.

“I kind of felt it (was going to be a special night) after the second shot,” Cobb said. “I thought it was off but when it went in, I was surprised. After that, it just kept coming.”

In addition to numerous plaudits from the college basketball world on social media, Cobb was recognized on Thursday night’s edition of SportsCenter as anchor Kevin Connors’ “Star of the Night.”

Earlier in the week, Fairfield was led by Cobb’s 22 points to a 93-87 home win over Iona. The Stags currently share first place in the MAAC at 3-1 as a part of an 8-5 overall record.
