Colleen Young '20 Wins Bronze in Rio

Colleen Young, a freshman on the Fairfield University swimming and diving team, earned a bronze medal at the Paralympic Games this past Sunday after finishing in third place in the 100-meter breaststroke. The event is one of four races for which Young qualified to compete on the world stage in Rio.

Young finished in third with a time of 1:17.02 to earn the bronze medal. Fotimakhon Amilova of Uzbekistan set a world record with a time of 1:12.45 to grab the gold, and the silver medal went to Rebecca Redfern of Great Britain.

Young, who also competed in the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, has a chance to return to the podium on Saturday when she is back in the pool to compete in the 100-meter backstroke. She is slated to swim for the Stags for the first time on Friday, Oct. 14 when Fairfield opens its season at Manhattan.
