“Business as Vocation”: Center for Ignatian Spirituality First Annual Symposium

What does Ignatian spirituality bring to the business world? ChrisLowney.jpg

In the Center for Ignatian Spirituality’s first annual symposium, “Business as a Vocation: Ignatian Spirituality for the Corporate World,” renowned author and former managing partner at JP Morgan & Co. Chris Lowney (pictured right) will speak on the topic, joined by a panel of business leaders who will explore the topic.

‌The free Symposium will be held on Saturday, November 21, from 8:30 to noon at the Dolan School of Business, which is co-hosting the event. Breakfast will be served; seating is limited and reservations are required.

“Fairfield has a strong reputation as a top-notch business school,” said Rev. James Bowler, S.J., director of the Center. “And as an institution we’re keenly interested in how our students develop and incorporate the values of Ignatian spirituality as they make their way in that world—values like ‘men and women for others’, striving for excellence, and leading a balanced life. We’re very excited to hear what Chris has to say on the topic, and to hear the stories of our alumni respondents.”

‌The panel of respondents joining Lowney will discuss how Ignatian spirituality has impacted their work and choices in the business world. They include: Joseph Berardino ’72, former Fairfield University trustee; American businessman, CPA, and managing director at Alvarez and Marsal; Sheila Kearney Davidson ’83, also a University trustee and executive vice president, chief legal officer & general counsel of New York Life Insurance Company; and John Dionne , former board chair at the University of Scranton and senior advisor of Blackstone.

Lowney is of Heroic Leadership: Practices from a 450 Year-Old Company that Changed the World, and chairman of the Board of Catholic Health Industries.
