Two MAAC Championships Highlight Exciting Fall Season

Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships for the Stags’ field hockey and volleyball teams have highlighted an exciting fall season at Fairfield. In total this fall, 13 student-athletes earned All-MAAC honors – including three major award winners – and 44 Stags were tabbed for the MAAC All-Academic Team during the fall of 2015.

Volleyball Test No. 3 Texas in NCAAs

Fairfield shined brightly on the national stage, hanging tough for three sets with the University of Texas in the NCAA Championship First Round on Thursday evening in Gregory Gym. Before a crowd of 1,898 and a television audience on ESPN’s Longhorn Network, the Stags battled the nation’s third-ranked team before falling by set scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-17. Fairfield wraps up its season as Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Champions with a record of 21-10. Leading the Stags into the national postseason were First Team All-MAAC performers Megan O’Sullivan ’17 and Skyler Day ’18 as well as Megan Theiller ’18 – the Most Outstanding Player of the MAAC Championship. Read more

NCAA Trip Ends Championship Season for Field Hockey

The Stags’ capped their MAAC Championship season with a trip to nationally-ranked Boston University for an NCAA Championship Play-In Round. Fairfield’s second-ever trip to the national postseason – and the first since 2001 – ended with a 6-1 loss to the Terriers. Read more

Field Hockey Succeeding On and Off the Field

Erin Buckley ’18 was named the MVP of the MAAC Championship, helming a defense that ceded just one goal to the top two teams in the MAAC regular season. She was joined on the All-Championship Team by goalkeeper Caitlin Bennett ’17 as well as Ann Burgoyne ’17 and Julie de Paeuw ’17, both of whom scored goals in the postseason. Read more

Another Strong Men’s Soccer Season Includes Four All-MAAC Talents

Carl Rees’ men’s soccer team turned in another strong campaign, wrapping up the season as the fourth-seeded in the MAAC Championship. The Stags were represented with postseason honors by one member of each class as Matt Turner ’16, Dominic Marshall ’17 and Angus Hastings ’18 earned All-MAAC Second Team laurels and Diego Casielles ’19 claimed a slot on the All-MAAC Rookie Team. Fairfield also placed 11 student-athletes on the MAAC All-Academic Team. Read more

Women’s Soccer Claims MAAC Year-End and Weekly Laurels

For the second consecutive season, Karolyn Collins ’16 was a defensive stalwart for Fairfield women’s soccer team as a Second Team All-MAAC honoree. The Stags also led the conference with 15 MAAC All-Academic selections. Read more

During the 2015 campaign, Jenny Jacobs ’19 became the first Stag to earn NSCAA National Player of the Week laurels after netting a hat trick in the team’s season-ending win at Saint Peter’s. Read more

Young Cross Country Teams Continue to Improve in 2015

Fairfield cross country was led by Sam Daly ’17 and Kathleen Woods ’16 at their respective MAAC Championship Meets, as the Stags combined to place nine student-athletes on the MAAC All-Academic squads. Head Coach Brendan Rickert is set to return many of the top performers from his young Fairfield teams on both the men’s and women’s rosters. Read more (Men’s) | Read more (Women’s)

Golf and Tennis Set the Stage for an Exciting Spring

Rounding out the fall were the Stags’ golf and tennis programs in their “non-traditional” seasons. Len Roberto’s golf teams swept the ECAC Championships – taking both team titles while Kevin Duncan ’19 and Jackie Schofield ’17 earned individual medalist honors. The Fairfield tennis teams, guided by Head Coach Jeff Bricker, sent a total of seven student-athletes to their respective USTA/ITA Northeast Region Championships.
