Stags Basketball Stars Barrow and Cizynski Reach a Milestone

For seniors Maurice Barrow and Katie Cizynski, it isn't about how many points they score. They are humble, always wanting to note their teammates' efforts before their own. But, there is no denying that their teammates look to them more often than not. Being the "go-to" Stag has allowed each of them to score 1,000 career points, both reaching the milestone this season.

Maurice Barrow achieved the feat on December 28 in the Stags' 73-64 win at Bucknell University. With just two minutes remaining in the first half, Barrow drained a three-pointer to hit the mark. He finished the game with a team-high 15 points in 34 minutes of action.

Few players have accomplished what Barrow has in his last four years. He's scored more than 1,200 points, breaking into Fairfield's top-20, and grabbed more than 700 rebounds. He's garnered numerous accolades throughout his career, including the 2012-13 MAAC Sixth Player of the Year award.

The 2014 Preseason All-MAAC selection is putting up solid numbers again this season, as Barrow is averaging 13.6 points per game, tying him for the team lead, and 5.0 rebounds per game. He's also second on the team in three-pointers made, blocks, and steals.

‌Katie Cizynski, meanwhile, recorded her 1,000th career point on February 8 in a huge 72-68 victory at Marist College. Needing 16 points entering the game, Cizynski delivered 20 points instead. Her basket came at 8:35 in the second half which also gave Fairfield the lead in the game.

Simply put, Cizynski is having her best season yet. She's scored in double figures in all but one game and is averaging 16.1 points and 8.2 rebounds. She's among the MAAC leaders in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, and minutes this season. For her career, she has played in 114 career games with 81 starts and is ranked in the top-20 in field goal percentage, rebounding, and blocks.

As their careers are winding down over the final weeks of the basketball season, there are still opportunities for their numbers grow and for them to climb even higher on the charts. While some might remember them strictly for their number others may remember them for the intangibles they brought to the court. But for everyone, they will remember Maurice Barrow and Katie Cizynski as two of the best to ever don a Stags uniform.
