“Wall Street Top 50,” Kathleen Murphy ‘84 to Headline Fairfield University’s Dolan Lecture Series

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (September 27, 2016) — Kathleen Murphy ‘84, president of Personal Investing at Fidelity Investments, will return to her alma mater on Thursday, November 10 at 7:30 p.m. to headline the Dolan School of Business’s Dolan Lecture Series entitled, “Lessons in Leadership.”

A graduate of Fairfield University, Murphy’s professional achievements have earned her nationwide recognition, repeatedly being named one of the “50 Most Powerful Women in American Business” by Fortune magazine, one of the “Wall Street Top 50” and “Business 100” by Irish America magazine and named as one of the “25 Most Powerful Women in Finance” by US Banker, among others.

Murphy is the President of Personal Investing — a Fidelity Investments company that provides financial products and services to millions of individual investors — and is an impassioned advocate for women. She works to empower women of all ages, specifically in financial matters.

“Ninety percent of women will be the sole decision maker on their financial matters due to longevity or divorce,” said Murphy. “Women are not nearly as confident as men in managing their finances. I speak all across the country on this issue.”

Murphy currently stands at the helm of a business with more than 17 million customers and over $1.9 trillion in client assets. Ms. Murphy has served as CEO of ING U.S. Wealth Management, leading the Defined Contribution, Defined Benefit, Retirement Solutions, Annuities and ING Advisors Network businesses. She began her career with Aetna, acting as general counsel and chief compliance officer with Aetna Financial Services.
