Fairfield University to host free summer lawn concert on Saturday, June 27, 2015

There is nothing more enjoyable than a beautiful evening, a lovely picnic with family and friends and, in the background, melodies celebrating the start of the summer season. In late June, the place for all of these experiences is the campus of Fairfield University. Officials at Fairfield have officially announced, “Live on the Lawn.”

Fairfield University officially announced “Live on the Lawn,” a family-friendly outdoor concert on the DiMenna-Nyselius Library lawn on Saturday, June 27 at 6:30 p.m. The concert, presented by the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts, is the kick-off celebration of the 25th anniversary of the on-campus arts center.

Peter Van Heerden, executive director of the Quick Center, is excited to bring this summer event to campus. “The Quick Center is a space that celebrates the joining of our communities both on- and off-campus, and Live on the Lawn is a wonderful extension of what we do throughout the year on a beautiful summer evening.”

The Alternate Routes, a band formed by Fairfield University alumni, is the evening’s headlining act. The band has toured around the world, and their song “Nothing More,” inspired to support those affected by the tragic events in Newtown, CT, was featured in the 2014 Winter Olympics. Additionally, they performed at this year’s Fairfield Awards Dinner, the University’s major fundraising event, which raised $1.35 million for the Multicultural Scholarship Fund. Their music has also been featured on popular television shows on NBC, ABC, ESPN, as well as UNICEF.

The New York-based artist, Todd Carey, will be the night’s opening act. Carey has toured nationally and performed on stage with such diverse artists as Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Marc Broussard, Brendan James, Jason Reeves, Keaton Simons and Matt Duke. Since 2010 he has been a fixture at the annual Hotel Carolina music festival. His music has been featured in MTV's The Real World and movies such as Palo Alto and True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet.

Jennifer Anderson, associate vice president of marketing and communications for the university, is excited about the opportunity to give back. “We have been a part of this wonderful community for almost 75 years, and we invite everyone to embraces the opportunity to get together with their family and friends and enjoy a night out on us.”

Live on the Lawn begins at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 27. The University encourages concertgoers to come early, tour the campus and enjoy the weather. All are welcome to bring blankets, chairs and picnic supplies. There will be shuttle buses from various parking areas to the concert venue and free prize drawings throughout the evening.
