Current Research Interests
Dr. Harper-Leatherman's research focuses on studying the spectroscopic and electrochemical characteristics of proteins encapsulated within aerogels. Aerogels are highly porous solids with high surface areas making them ideal for applications in catalysis, sensing, batteries, or fuel cells in which numerous, efficient surface reactions are important. Exploring biofunctionality within aerogels will enhance knowledge of how protein environment and organization effect protein properties, and will aid in the future development of bioanalytical devices.
