Barbara L. Welles joined the Fairfield University community after having lived the past twenty years in Stockholm, Sweden. There she was a researcher and teacher in the Division of Reproductive and Perinatal Health Care, working with midwives in the Department of Women and Child Health at the Karolinska Institutet. Barbara speaks Swedish fluently and has been involved in research on the earliest years of development. At Fairfield she worked on an Early Childhood Education Master's Program.

Currently Dr. Welles is an Associate Professor in the Educational Studies and Teacher Preparation Department where she teaches Educational Psychology at the Undergraduate and Graduate levels, as well as Educational Research in the Graduate school. Her daughter Jullia lives in Sweden, her son Eric lives in Brooklyn and she resides in Black Rock.
