Dr. Audra Kate Nuru

Assistant Professor of Communication


Audra K. Nuru (PhD, University of Nebraska-Lincoln) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication. Her research and teaching call attention to the ways that individuals from underrepresented social groups respond to discursive challenges while negotiating the complex, fragmented, and competing intersectionality of multiple selves. Contributing to the emergent area of Critical Interpersonal and Family Communication (CIFC), Dr. Nuru centers her research and teaching around issues of power and praxis in contemporary studies of personal and social relationships. Dr. Nuru currently serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Divorce and Remarriage, as the Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Communication, as well as on program coordinating committees for Black Studies and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. She also is a member of the National Communication Association, International Communication Association, and the International Association for Relationship Research.
