The Robin Kanarek Learning Resource Center
The Robin Kanarek Learning Resource Center provides a simulated hospital environment where graduate students practice advanced nursing skills. Our medical equipment is state-of-the-art, with high fidelity simulators (SimMan 3G) as well as other Vital Sim units that allow students ample opportunity to put their classroom knowledge into practice.
Fairfield's nursing faculty has fully integrated simulation training into the nursing curriculum. Working in a control room, they establish different scenarios involving patients, evolving medical conditions, and families, so that students learn to react to a range of different clinical situations. Simulation-based teaching helps students to integrate clinical skills, critical thinking, and communication skills in order to practice evidence-based nursing care in a risk-free, hands on environment. Nursing students graduate from Fairfield with confidence in their ability to think quickly and communicate effectively.
The Resource Center includes a fully-equipped Operating Room area complete with anesthesia delivery devices, cardiac monitoring devices, a defibrillator, a ventilator, and a code cart. A main skills lab provides a venue for students to practice conducting physical assessments, interviewing patients and families, and completing health histories.
