Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

Are Fairfield University’s Dolan School of Business Graduate Programs accredited?

All graduate programs at the Dolan School are accredited by NEASC and AACSB International.

Are there admission deadlines for your programs?

The Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA), Master of Science in Finance (MSF), Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAS) and the Dolan Graduate Business Essentials Certificate (GCBE) are on rolling admissions.

Although the Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) also has rolling admissions, admission is extremely competitive and the cohort size is limited so applicants are strongly encouraged to apply by the end of the fall semester prior to starting the following summer.

What are your admission requirements?

One must successfully complete a Bachelor’s Degree before being formally admitted into any of our graduate programs (you can apply while still completing your undergraduate degree).

In order to be considered for the Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAS), one must also have successfully completed a graduate-level degree.

Can I apply directly after graduation or do I need work experience?

You can apply directly after graduation.  While work experience is beneficial, especially with regard to enabling one to bring her/his professional experience into the class discussions, we do consider students who are motivated to seek graduate education immediately following undergrad study.

When are classes offered?

All the program schedules are flexible, to support both the working professional and the full-time student. During the traditional fall and spring semesters, graduate classes are typically offered in either of the following formats: 1) once a week, from 6:30-9:30, for the entire semester, or 2) once a week, from 6:30-9:30 plus all day on 3 Saturdays, for seven weeks during the semester. Additionally, we offer 2 and 4 week intercession courses in January and throughout the summer months (May thru August).

What are the class sizes for the Dolan School of Business graduate programs?

Classes are small; typically 20-25 students.

How long does it take to complete the program?

For the MBA, one has up to five years to complete the degree requirements. For a typical part-time student, the degree can be completed in approximately 2.5 years. Depending on one’s undergraduate background, scheduling commitments and choice of concentration, it is possible to complete the MBA in one year on a full-time basis.

For the MSF and MSBA, one has up to three years to complete the degree requirements. Either degree can also be completed in one year on a full-time basis.

The MSA is a one year, full-time commitment.

The Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAS) is typically completed over two years on a part-time basis. The Dolan Graduate Business Essentials Certificate (GCBE) is intended to be completed over the four month period during the summer (May thru August). Exceptions can be made to complete the CAS sooner or to extend the time for the GCBU.

How many students are in the program?

There are approximately 200 students across the various programs.

Can I transfer credits in from another university?

You may transfer up to 6 graduate credits from an accredited university if the grades are B or better.

What is the tuition?

Currently, tuition is $875 per credit hour for all programs.

My undergraduate degree is not in business. Can I still apply?

As long as one has the required pre-requisites for each program (see chart above), one’s undergraduate major does not matter. Please note the specific exception for the MSA (also holds for the MBA with an accounting or accounting-related concentration), where one must have the equivalent of an undergraduate major in accounting.
