Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Programs

‌‌‌These programs are for working professionals or lifelong learners who have earned a bachelor's degree but need to enhance a resume, improve skills, prepare for a job change, or just want to continue to learn in a field they did not major in at college. A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college is required.

If you decide to register for a course after reviewing the program details; please follow the steps below:

Step One: Obtain a Fairfield Student ID# - make sure to select “Visiting Student” when prompted on the drop down menu.
Step Two: Obtain a NetID - make sure you have your Student ID# ready.

Step Three: Email Eve Liptak your student ID# and she will prepare your student file for registration. Once notified by Eve Liptak that your account is ready you may register online.

Step Four: Online Registration from my.fairfield.edu portal.

Certificate in Accounting

This program is designed for adults looking to:

  • Learn new job skills
  • Improve current accounting knowledge
  • Brush up on the skills you need to better understand the essentials of accounting and finance for your small business

Dates

The program, which begins each year on or about June 1st, is designed to be completed in one year. Classes are scheduled at night, but certificate students may enroll in daytime classes on a space-available basis. Course offerings vary each semester - check the course schedule for exact dates.

Certificate Prerequisites

Before starting the Certificate Program, prospective students must have already fulfilled the degree and course requirements listed below.

Degree Requirements: BA or BS degree from a regionally accredited college

Course Requirements:

  • AC 11 Introduction to Financial Accounting
  • AC 12 Introduction to Managerial Accounting

Note: The required pre-requisite courses above may be taken at Fairfield University or transferred from another approved college or university.

Certificate Requirements

Students may not count certificate courses towards any Bachelor's degree major or minor requirements. All courses are offered for credit unless otherwise specified. Students must obtain at least a 2.5 GPA in the six required certificate courses listed below:

  • AC 203 Intermediate Accounting I
  • AC 204 Intermediate Accounting II
  • AC 310 Advanced Accounting
  • AC 320 Cost Management
  • AC 330 Auditing
  • AC 343 Federal Income Taxation I

Note: All six of the above courses (18 credits) must be completed at Fairfield University.

Certificate in Entrepreneurship

Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Entrepreneurship

Are you a new small business owner looking to learn the skills needed to successful run your business?  Fairfield University has the certificate to accomplish just that.  This 15-credit, five-course certificate is specifically designed to cover the legal, management and technology issues small business owners face daily and it can be completed in just one year!
 
Certificate Requirements
 
Students enrolling in Fairfield's certificate programs must have completed a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college and fulfill all prerequisites stated in the program description. Students may not count certificate courses towards any bachelor's degree major or minor requirements.


For a 15-credit Entrepreneurship Certificate, students would complete:

BU 211 Legal Environment of Business*

Certificate in Marketing

‌The Fairfield University Marketing Certificate provides managers and other professionals requisite marketing knowledge to make informed decisions about the current marketplace and its competitive environment. The cluster of courses comprising the certificate program covers topics on consumer/business buyer behavior, marketing management, and business applications from a marketing perspective. Due to the broad, diverse nature of consumer (and business) markets, coupled with the myriad of competitive offerings found in most industries, the courses in the Marketing Certificate Program emphasize the importance of firms collecting and utilizing market research data in order to make customer-driven strategic decisions.

This program is designed for professionals:

  • ‌‌Who are called upon to make key strategic decisions (concerning the product/service, pricing, distribution, and promotion).
  • Who are responsible for collecting, understanding and/or utilizing customer data.
  • Who want to learn more about the marketing process and its importance in their organizations.

Certificate Requirements

Course Requirements

Complete the following four (12 credits) courses:

MK 101 - Principles of Marketing (prerequisite for all other marketing courses)
MK 212 - Consumer Behavior
MK 311 - Marketing Research*
MK elective course**

*A statistics course is required prior to enrolling in MK 311. Equivalent professional experience may also be considered, but this must be determined by an Assistant Dean, in consultation with the Chair of the Marketing Department.

**A marketing course of the individual's choice ideally based on his/her professional background and/or personal interest.

MBA Prep Certificate

The MBA Prep Certificate is designed for students who:

  • ‌Have completed a bachelor's degree and are now interested in pursuing a Masters in Business Administration but who do not have the required foundational business knowledge or coursework to proceed
  • Are looking for a sound foundation in accounting, economics, finance, and applied business mathematics

Students earn a certificate and fulfill the MBA program entry requirements at the same time. The certificate can be completed in two semesters.

EC 12 Introduction to Macroeconomics
MA 17 Introduction to Probability and Statistics
MA 19 Introduction to Calculus
It is recommended that all students who complete this certificate for an MBA should also complete a GMAT prep course prior to taking GMATs.
