Program Overview

Fairfield’s Management of Technology program prepares managers and leaders to apply the technical, financial, entrepreneurial, and management skills relevant to a competitive global environment. Graduates translate technology into business actions and implement solutions for today’s global economy. They are prepared to develop and manage efficient systems that integrate workers, machines, materials, information, and energy to deliver a product or provide a service. As industrial engineers they may create production schedules, engineering specifications, and process flows to understand activities in manufacturing and services. They use their knowledge of engineering, mathematics, information technology, business administration, and management, to focus on the way products and services are designed and manufactured.

Through a combination of technical abilities, people skills, and business understanding, graduates of the Management of Technology program are equipped to analyze, design, build, and manage systems, as well as make business and technical decisions in the context of their organization’s strategic business goals. As professionals, they work in nearly every industry including aerospace, hospitals, communications, e-commerce, entertainment, government, finance, food, information systems, manufacturing, military, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, sports, insurance, sales, accounting, banking, travel, and transportation.

5-Year Management of Technology

Engineering management is a multidisciplinary field that integrates all engineering disciplines offered by Fairfield University with technology management, systems and business. This program broadens your academic options and allows you to pursue a combination in any of our existing BS engineering degrees with a Master of Science in the Management of Technology in just five years.

This combination enables students not only to understand engineering, management and business concepts, but also to understand their integration and how the intersection distinctively shapes our world and their careers.

Fairfield University engineering students may request a change of status from the undergraduate to the undergraduate/graduate combined plan of study at any point after the following conditions are met:

  • Completed 60 credits towards the BS in an engineering discipline
  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Have approval of the department chair

Tuition and fees for Fairfield's graduate programs.

Our programs are designed to accommodate students who want to attend either on a full-time or part-time basis. Students who are fully employed will find the scheduling of our courses compatible with their work requirements.

Most of our courses are offered in the evening and a few are offered on the weekends. Weekday courses generally meet once a week for three hours. Weekend courses tend to be full day courses that meet for four or five weekends or weekend days over the semester.

We keep our classes small. The typical maximum class size is 20, but class sizes range from less than 12 to 20.

Our students come from a variety of undergraduate backgrounds, which adds to the richness of our interactions in class. An undergraduate degree specifically in engineering is not required, but exposure to technology through employment is useful.

For students who attend part-time, the time will vary based on how many courses are taken at a time. Students who attend full-time take 9 credits each semester and can complete the program in 2 years. All students are required to complete their degree within 6 years after they begin their first course.

To be considered for financial aid, Fairfield University requires students to complete a FAFSA form. For further information on financial aid, visit the Office of Financial Aid.

A limited number of part-time assistantships are available to assist promising and deserving students.
