Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences' annual e-newsletter! We are pleased to share with you the highlights of our 2016-17 school year and look forward to a rewarding 2017 fall semester.
We are a vibrant community at the College of Arts and Sciences with engaged faculty, dedicated staff, budding scholars and accomplished alumni. In addition to being the oldest and largest of the University’s five schools with 15 departments, 18 programs and four Schools within the College, we are also the home to Fairfield’s Core Curriculum, the intellectual foundation of the Fairfield experience anchored in the liberal arts and deeply informed by Jesuit values of academic excellence and service. We take our mission seriously to create authentic learning opportunities for students that allow for “exploring the complexities of the human condition, experiencing the wonders of artistic creation, investigating the intricacies of the universe and reflecting on the mysteries of the sacred – so that we may all do our part to promote a just and peaceful world."
Upon graduation, our alumni are not only prepared for a rewarding career but an inspired life of service. As baseball legend Jackie Robinson once observed, “A life is not important, except in the impact it has on other lives.” The stories you will read in this edition of the e-newsletter showcase the excellence of our faculty, students, alumni and Board of Advisors. They have all made the most of their experiences and kept in mind their responsibility to lead by sharing what they have learned with others. It is clear that through commitment, hard work, relationship building and service, our community has embraced the immortal words of Ignatius of Loyola to, “Go forth and set the world on fire.”
