School Receptions - Saturday, May 19, 2018

Each school at Fairfield University will host an undergraduate reception or ceremony on Saturday, May 19, from 2 - 3:30 p.m. followed by the Baccalaureate Mass at 4 p.m. in Alumni Hall. Graduates, along with their family and friends, are invited to attend their school's reception to meet and mingle with deans and faculty members. All are cordially invited to attend the Baccalaureate Mass.

FAQs

HOW MAY TICKETS BE PROCURED?

Students who have completed their undergraduate or graduate destination surveys may pick up their Commencement tickets during the below dates and times. Each student may claim up to five (5) tickets for families and friends to use for the outdoor ceremony.

  • Monday, April 23rd from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Registrar’s Office in Kelley Center
  • Tuesday, April 24th from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Registrar’s Office in Kelley Center
  • Wednesday, April 25th from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Registrar’s Office in Kelley Center
  • Thursday, April 26th from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Registrar’s Office in Kelley Center
  • Friday, April 27th from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Registrar’s Office in Kelley Center

Outdoor exercises will be held on Bellarmine Lawn. Two of these outdoor tickets will be special indoor tickets valid for two guests only for indoor exercises. Indoor exercises, in the case of severe and dangerous weather, will be held at Alumni Hall. This rain location allows the University to respond to the wishes of seniors that classmates are together in a rain site.

Students are required to bring their Stag Card for pick up. They are also reminded to safeguard their tickets. Lost tickets will not be replaced.

For those without tickets, there will be several indoor locations with live video streaming of Commencement ceremonies. Continue to check this website for updates.


WHERE DO I LEARN THE PROPER INFORMATION ABOUT UPCOMING COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY?

You are required to attend the Commencement Guidelines Meeting prior to walking at commencement. This is a non-ticketed event that reviews all aspects of the upcoming ceremony. The required meeting will take place on Wednesday, May 16th from 10 am - 11 am in the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts Kelley Theatre.


WHERE DO I PICK UP MY ACADEMIC ATTIRE?

Academic attire that undergraduate degree candidates ordered online will be distributed by the Fairfield University Stag Spirit Shop, 2nd floor, Barone Campus Center. Pick up times are as follows:

  • Wednesday, May 16th from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Lower Level Barone Campus Center, 5:15 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Spirit Shop
  • Thursday, May 17th from 9:00 am to 7:00 p.m. at the Spirit Shop
  • Friday, May 18th from 9:00 am to 4:30 p.m. at the Spirit Shop
  • Saturday, May 19th from 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. - midnight at the Spirit Shop
  • Saturday, May 19th from 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. - midnight at the Spirit Shop
  • Sunday, May 20th from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Spirit Shop

The cost of the gown, hood, tassel and cap is $60. These are for the graduates to keep.

Outdoor Location

The 68th Commencement ceremony is scheduled to be held on Bellarmine Lawn. Commencement, if at all possible will be held outdoors, even in drizzle or rain, so please come prepared with appropriate rain gear. We ask attendees to please refrain from using umbrellas during the ceremony so as to not block the view of others.

Indoor Location

In the case of severe and dangerous weather, officials may choose to move the ceremony indoors to Alumni Hall. View the campus map here. Each degree candidate is given a maximum of five (5) tickets for the outdoor Commencement exercises. Two (2) of these outdoor tickets will be special indoor tickets valid for two guests only for undergraduate indoor exercises, and five (5) tickets are allotted for indoor viewing for graduate exercises. Tickets that do not admit the holder to Alumni Hall will have a specified indoor viewing location marked on the ticket. View our campus map to see the indoor live-stream viewing locations.

Changes to ceremony location:

Any delays or cancellations will be communicated via the website at fairfield.edu and the University’s Stag Alert system. Information will also be placed on www.fairfield.edu/commencement.



ARE THERE ANY SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR GUESTS WITH PHYSICAL DISABILITIES?

Fairfield University encourages persons with disabilities to participate in its programs and activities. There will be several indoor locations with live video streaming of Commencement ceremonies located around campus available for guests with physical disabilities or who would prefer indoor seating. If you anticipate needing any type of accommodation or have questions about the physical access provided, please contact the Department of Public Safety at (203) 254-4090 or in Loyola Hall, Ground Floor, Room 2.


HOW MAY I OBTAIN A COMMENCEMENT PROGRAM FOR THE UNIVERSITY'S 68th COMMENCEMENT?

Commencement programs will be distributed by student ushers at the entrance to Bellarmine Terrace or, in the event of severe and dangerous weather, at the entrance to Alumni Hall.


HOW MUCH TIME WILL THE CEREMONY TAKE?

The ceremony usually runs two hours.


WHEN SHOULD GUESTS PLAN ON ARRIVING IN FAIRFIELD?

Most families arrive early Saturday in order to take part in both the Saturday and Sunday programs.


WHEN SHOULD WE PLAN ON LEAVING FAIRFIELD?

Since graduates usually depart from Fairfield by noon on Monday families and guests are free to leave according to their own schedules.


WILL THERE BE PRINTED ANNOUNCEMENTS AVAILABLE FOR GRADUATES TO SEND TO RELATIVES AND FRIENDS?

IS THERE SPACE AVAILABLE ON CAMPUS FOR A PRIVATE RECEPTION DURING COMMENCEMENT WEEKEND?

No. Because of the many events already taking place on campus, we are unable to offer space for private functions. We would suggest that you contact a local restaurant or hotel.


WHAT ABOUT HOTEL RESERVATIONS?
