Seamus Markey ’26

Seamus Markey ’26 grew up in Queens, NY, and attended Regis High School in New York City. Now a senior at Fairfield University, he will receive his bachelor’s degree in accounting this May and has accepted a full-time position with KPMG after Commencement.

Reflecting on his time at Fairfield and the path that led him here, Markey recognizes how steady effort has shaped lasting outcomes in his life. His hard work in grade school earned him the opportunity to attend Regis High School—a formative period that influenced him deeply and inspired him to continue his education at a Jesuit Catholic institution. Fairfield’s strong Jesuit identity drew him to apply, and after being admitted, he was selected for a full-tuition scholarship through The Company Scholars program—an opportunity that made his college decision clear. “Knowing that I would get an education at a prestigious institution without having to stress about financial burden was a true blessing,” he said.

Markey arrived at Fairfield eager to make the most of his four years. Having served as president of his graduating class at Regis, he sought out opportunities to continue developing his leadership skills and contributing to the student life experience. In his first and sophomore years, he was elected president of his residence halls, serving as a representative for fellow residents and leading community-building events. He is also a member of the Fairfield University Student Association (FUSA), where he serves on the Sports and Recreation Board.

In his junior year, Markey studied abroad in Australia, making 2025 one of the most memorable years of his life. By chance, he was able to share the experience with a few of his former high school baseball teammates, adding an unexpected familiarity to the new environment. Together, they embraced a new country and culture while enjoying the company of close friends from home. For Markey, his time in Australia broadened his perspective on the possibilities that await him, both personally and professionally.

The summer before his senior year, Markey interned at KPMG. The experience deepened his interest in accounting and allowed him to demonstrate his abilities, ultimately leading to a full-time offer at the firm. He recalled a friend’s father once telling him, “Accounting is the language of business.”

“After spending four years studying accounting, that statement rings true,” Markey said. “Accounting is present in every conversation surrounding business.”

Today, Markey is completing his senior year while also preparing for the CPA exam. As he looks ahead, he plans to carry forward the strong work ethic and Jesuit values that have guided him at Fairfield, using the opportunities he has received to build a successful career and pay it forward by supporting future generations of Stags.
