Daisy Degante Garcia ’27

Daisy Degante Garcia ’27 grew up in Queens, NY, and graduated from Cristo Rey New York High School in 2023. She received a full-tuition scholarship to Fairfield University through The Company Scholars, a Fairfield program that provides four-year support to qualifying students selected from Jesuit and Cristo Rey high schools. This scholarship made it possible for Garcia to continue her education without financial barriers and to fully immerse herself in academics and campus life.

Now in her third year at Fairfield, Garcia is a first-generation college student on track to earn a bachelor’s degree in public health from Fairfield’s Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies in 2027. Following Commencement, she plans to continue her studies in medical sonography and pursue a career as an OB/GYN ultrasound technician. She also hopes to one day partner with a nonprofit organization to help expand access to prenatal care to individuals without insurance or adequate healthcare. “Fairfield has supported this path by giving me both the academic foundation and the values-based perspective to work toward making healthcare more equitable,” she said.

From her first days on campus, Garcia was drawn to Fairfield’s strong sense of community and its emphasis on involvement. Eager to connect and contribute, she sought out leadership opportunities that would allow her to make a lasting impact. Today, she is an active member of the Fairfield University Student Association (FUSA), where she serves as director of club operations, working closely with student organization leaders to plan and execute campus events. She also serves as the marketing chair for the Latinx Student Union and as a Company Scholars peer leader.

A particularly meaningful part of Garcia’s Fairfield experience has been her deepened connection to faith and gratitude through Campus Ministry. Participation in service projects, retreats, immersion trips, and other programs has helped shape her personal and spiritual growth. “These experiences have shaped me into a more grounded, compassionate, and connected person,” she said, “and have taught me to find God in all things.”

As she looks ahead, Garcia does so with gratitude for the opportunities she has received, pride in her accomplishments, and a strong commitment to her life of service—motivated always by the desire to give back and to make her family proud.
