Coach's Letter

Dear Friends, Family, and Alumni,

I’d like to take the time to formally welcome the Fairfield Women’s Lacrosse community to the 2017-2018 season. After having been a part of the Fairfield family for nine years, it’s no less exciting to begin a new year — and we are certainly in the quiet before the storm. For 2018, we are welcoming several new faces to the program and have an exceptional freshman class that we can’t wait to welcome to campus. In addition, I am happy to announce the hiring of Anne Murray as our Associate Head Coach and excited for her presence to enhance every aspect of our program.

As much as I am excited about the future, I am well aware that the foundation of this program is rooted in its strong alumnae base and all that our supporters have given to the program.  Whether you are a new alum receiving this e-mail for the first year or a seasoned veteran of our Fairfield Friend’s Association, it is my intention to empower each and every one of you to share ownership of the future of this proud program.

While ownership often means a financial investment — and we are always in need of ways to offset the budgetary gap every program experiences — ownership for us also means a willingness to participate. For this year, we are hosting a February kick-off reception to honor the graduated Class of 2017 in place of our typical October alumni game. We are fortunate to be invited to play at the US Lacrosse facility on the date of alumni weekend. By changing the alumni game to a kickoff dinner for this year, we are hopeful that we can get the same boisterous crowd and support in celebrating the great 2017 alums and welcoming them into the alumni ranks.

As athletic alumni, it’s important to reflect on your experiences at Fairfield and help ensure that the Fairfield experience of the future continues to support excellence both within and outside the classroom. By staying active with current team events and remaining close to your fellow graduates, you will be making a contribution to maintain the spirit, tradition, and excellence of athletics at Fairfield.

As my players will tell you, I have always had an open-door policy that I would like to extend that to all former players, whatever the generation. You may not be close enough to benefit from all of the candy my office has to offer, but with every away game comes a tailgate that many of you hopefully remember fondly. It is my hope with the support of our great alumni office, our association heads, and each of you, that we generate enough participation to set a new record of attendance at our February kickoff banquet and achieve our ambitious fundraising goals for the 2018 season.

Our fundraising goals, as always, are lofty but reflect a growing need to supplement every facet of our budget. For the 2017-2018 season, we have set our goals at 40 donors and for $30,000 raised. I personally would like to set the goal of generating more first-time donors than ever before and will look towards each of you to help encourage your teammates to give back.

As always, thank you for your continued support of the Fairfield Women’s Lacrosse program and we look forward to seeing our fans this fall.

Go Stags!
