Captains' Letter

Dear Friends of Fairfield Softball,

Thank you so much for all that you have given and continue to give to the Fairfield Softball team.

While we all chose to come to Fairfield for several reasons, there is one reason that we all share: Fairfield is a great academic school with small classroom sizes, strong athletics programs, Jesuit Catholic values and traditions, and many opportunities available to benefit our future career endeavors.

We are thankful for all of the opportunities that Fairfield and our donors have provided us and the entire team. On this STAGiving Day, March 20, we plan to participate and give back in honor of our own experiences as Stags and to ensure that future student-athletes have access to the same, or even better, opportunities than we have. You’re invited to join the celebration and make a gift in honor of your own Fairfield experience.

Because of our time at Fairfield, we’ve experienced so many unforgettable adventures that make us proud to be Stags. And that’s why we’re all giving back in honor of our most memorable Fairfield experiences to date.

For me, Courtney Hankins, my most memorable moment to date was the 2018 Athletics Talent Show, which the Athletics Department puts on for charity every year. We had an amazing Super Bowl themed performance that was incredibly fun to be a part of. Although embarrassing at times, the fact that this event is for charity and is an experience I get to share with my teammates and closest friends makes the event unforgettable. Seasons and games sometimes blur together, but these moments certainly stand out!

For me, Makenna Deguilio, my most memorable moment was winning two MAAC championships and having the opportunity to play on the biggest stage in college softball, the University of Alabama and Louisiana State University.

And for me, Angelina McGuire, my most memorable moment at Fairfield occurred during the 2017 softball season. As a result of winning the MAAC tournament, my team and I were given the opportunity to travel to and play against Louisiana State University. We were an error away from beating them and becoming the first team from the MAAC conference to win a game in the regional tournament. Even though we lost the game, the experience as a whole is something that is going to stick with me for the rest of my life.

Thank you to the alumni, parents, and friends who contributed to make these opportunities possible.

Our softball program would not be successful without your support. Having the funds to afford necessary equipment, a functioning and comfortable locker room, transportation to games, and sustainable meals when we're on the road motivate us to stay competitive and perform to the best of their abilities.

We hope you’ll continue your support on STAGiving Day by making a gift in honor of a coach, student-athlete, or program that made a difference to you, a family member, or a neighbor. And new this year, if you make a gift of at least $75, you can opt in to receive an exclusive pair of Stag socks. See how your support will make a difference by visiting fairfield.edu/STAGiving.

Thank you for contributing to the success of Fairfield Softball!
