Coach's Letter

Dear Friends of Field Hockey,

The 2017 Stags Field Hockey season officially started on August 18th. The team worked hard this preseason, and we are excited to put all of that hard work to use this season. Our schedule has a great mix of non-conference games that include University of Albany, Villanova, Providence, Temple and Cal Berkeley, to name a few. We are hoping to gain experience and continue to improve as we head into our MAAC schedule. Our team’s goal is to be MAAC Champions and compete in the NCAA Tournament. We won the MAAC in 2015 and were runners up last year, so we feel that this is a realistic and obtainable goal! Our squad is big this year, with 14 returning players and 10 new faces. We have depth of experience with our returners and are looking forward to seeing what our newcomers will add to our program. Our new players are from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Germany, and Spain. Come see us play and meet the team!

In addition to our goal of winning the MAAC, our team displayed true academic excellence this past spring. Every player on our squad achieved a GPA of over 3.0. In addition, the field hockey team was recognized as the varsity team with the highest GPA for the 2016/17 academic year with a cumulative GPA of 3.51! I am so proud of this accomplishment and look forward to defending that title for this upcoming academic year. With team members pursuing a variety of majors (Nursing, Biology, Business, Psychology, Art History, Communications, to name a few), this honor is a true testament to their dedication and hard work in the classroom.

We have a great event planned for Alumni Weekend on October 21/22, 2017. We are recognizing the members of the first NCAA Division I team at Fairfield University on their 35th anniversary. This will be celebrated during our game against Temple on Sunday, October 22 at noon. In addition, we are finalizing details for a FUFH Happy Hour/Old Stag Dinner on Saturday, October 21. More details will be coming out soon, but please feel free to contact me and please save the date!

Lastly, I cannot thank all of you enough for your support of our program last fiscal year. Thanks to STAGiving Day and other amazing donations, we exceeded our $15,000 goal. The money raised has already been put to good use; it helped to defray our travel costs to Virginia, and allowed us to get a TV in the locker room for the players to watch film. Of course, our goals are even bigger this year for STAGiving Day and other fundraising events. We so appreciate all of your continued support!  For more information, go to

Thank you so much!

I hope to see you on the sidelines this fall cheering us on! Go Stags!
