Coach's Letter

Dear Alumni and Friends,

For the past two seasons, Fairfield’s baseball program has won back-to-back MAAC regular season championships — including last year’s tournament championship and trip to the NCAA Regionals at Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX.

Our new Alumni Stadium, which the Baseball Stags are proud to call home, along with our one-of-a-kind renovated locker room, just turned a year old. This site not only represents our accomplishments on the field, but it also reflects the Stag pride of our friends and alumni who supported the construction of this tremendous venue.

We are currently preparing for our upcoming season, and our players are in fall workout mode. We have lost a successful group of seven seniors who have seen our program excel like no other through their four years at Fairfield University. We have also lost junior, Gavin Wallace, who was the 15th round draft pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates and appeared at the top of many D1 categories in pitching this spring. With that said, we need to develop 250 innings from new pitchers over the fall and next spring to fill the roles of these talented players. We have a solid group of 10 recruited student-athletes incoming this September. Come February 2018, these new recruits, along with the players who already have one-year of program experience under their belts, will be ready to lead the Stags to victory.

We begin our ’18 spring season with two three-game series weekends against Georgia Southern and George Mason. Our spring break week brings us to Jacksonville, FL to take on North Florida and Jacksonville University, with Savannah State mixed in the week before our MAAC regular season games begin. We plan these games knowing they will be competitive and a great experience for our players to help prepare them for the MAAC competition.

We appreciate all the support that makes these early trips possible; these trips better prepare our team for the games back north. The cost of flights and travel has jumped far ahead of the budget increases. We absolutely need your help in making these trips possible. Whether you attend a game down south or up north, or are an alumnus or a friend of the program or school, please stop by the dugout to say “hi.”

Thanks again for your support,

Bill Currier
