Email is a strategic tool for carrying out the mission of the University. It can be used to easily, quickly, and effectively to communicate with large groups of people. This channel is the most frequently used form of digital communication, therefore strict email policies have been put in place to ensure the relationship we have with our constiuents remains strong, and we continue to see long term success.

Bulk email, by definition, is unsolicited email sent quickly in large quantities, and is recognized as an efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally-friendly use of technology for facilitating communication. Although a relatively informal medium, staff should be aware that each email they send does affect image and reputation.

Email Disclaimer

The standard email template includes an email disclaimer. Users must not remove or changes this when sending messages.

Managing Email Lists

Please allow 7-10 business days for unsubscribes to take effect.

If your mailing list unsubscribe rate is 1-2 percent, you may need to review your content and intended audience. Unsubscribes most often occur when your targets are not interested in the content or they receive mailings too often.

If your email campaign receives abuse reports, there is a problem with your mailing list — and the university as a whole could be at risk.

CAN-SPAM Act

The CAN-SPAM Act doesn’t apply just to bulk email. It covers all commercial messages, which the law defines as “any electronic mail message the primary purpose of which is the commercial advertisement or promotion of a product or service.
