What is Ready to Run™ Connecticut?

Ready to Run™ Connecticut logo Ready to Run™ Connecticut is a nonpartisan, women’s leadership and campaign training program designed to empower women to become active participants in Connecticut’s political process. Modeled after the Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP) national program at Rutgers University, Ready to Run™ Connecticut offers women an all-day workshop series that equips them with the necessary strategies, knowledge, and networking tools to effectively pursue leadership positions in state and local government.

Workshops are offered on two different tracks and are facilitated by an expert panel of campaign strategists, media specialists, and local elected officials who address the following topics:

  • Fundraising
  • Campaign strategy
  • Media training
  • Crafting a campaign message
  • Networking
  • Mobilizing voters

Track 1:

I’m Ready to Run, Now What? for women planning to run for office immediately.

Track 2:

I’m Not Ready to Run Yet, But… for women who want to learn more about the different ways to get involved in politics or position themselves for public leadership.

Participants will walk away with:

  • “How-to” instructions on running for office
  • Real-world advice and best practices from experts
  • Strategies for positioning oneself for public leadership
  • A better understanding of Connecticut politics

Why women leaders matter...

Research shows that women make government more transparent, inclusive, and accessible. They bring different priorities and experiences to public life, including perspectives that have been largely absent in public policymaking. Yet according to a 2017 CAWP report, women hold a mere 25% of the 7,383 state legislative positions available in the U.S., and in Connecticut, only 28% of legislative seats are held by females.

In an effort to change these statistics, Ready to Run™ Connecticut promotes awareness of women’s participation in political and civic life and encourages them to engage in government and policy making by equipping them with the necessary networking and leadership skills.
