Independent Study and Internship


Advanced students in the studio art program have the opportunity to earn credit through internships, typically done in New York City or Connecticut. Options include: Working with an artist, assisting in a contemporary gallery, museum, printmaking atelier, or at a work site specifically suited to your interest and talents. Recent majors have interned with New York artist Petah Coyne; nationally-known artist Robert Cottingham; at the Brooke Alexander Gallery in New York; the Whitney Museum Annex, and at the Aldrich Museum in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Thomas J. Walsh Art Gallery on campus, assisting in the installation and de-installation of art works; the design, research, and writing of invitations, catalogues, and brochures; and the creation and delivery of educational programming for elementary, secondary, and university students as well as for adult groups in the Fairfield community. Independent study, working with a faculty member on a studio project in a medium of one’s choice.
