Learning for a Lifetime
The Program
A membership of like-minded people who may:
- participate in broadly based monthly symposia offered by distinguished members of the Fairfield University faculty.
- audit a wide range of university semester-long courses.
- attend special interest programs.
Explore the world of arts and humanities through a spectrum of courses offered at University College. Membership is open to the intellectually curious over the age of 50. Activities take place on the Fairfield University campus.
In addition, the Albert M. Loch Scholarship offers members the opportunity to support a deserving University College adult student each semester. One fundraising event is held per year to raise funds for the $2,500 scholarship.
Symposia
During the academic year monthly symposia take place in an assembly room on campus. The broadly based programs are both interesting and enriching. Past symposia subjects have included literature, music, art, finance, medicine, psychology, interpersonal relationships, technology, ethics, communication and environmental concerns.
Symposia speakers are experts actively involved in the areas under discussion. Often, they are members of the Fairfield University faculty. An important collateral aspect of the symposia is the broadening of acquaintances in a community peer group, and the opportunity to exchange viewpoints among a highly diversified group of professionals.
Auditing Continuing Education Courses
Members have the privilege of auditing one undergraduate or selected non-credit course each semester from the University College program.
These courses cover a wide range of subjects, and generally meet once a week from 7:00-9:30 p.m. (a limited number of courses are available during the day.) Each semester University College at Fairfield University publishes a catalogue with a description of the curriculum and course schedules.
Special Interest Programs
Members may also enroll in special mini-courses or activities with a single focus, which are offered periodically. Most recently, members have enjoyed a mini-course on "Environmental Issues".
And Still More...
Members enjoy privileges such as ID cards, free on-campus parking, eligibility to join the Recreational Complex (additional fee), and use the library. In addition, members may purchase discount tickets to Quick Center performances.
All registrations and course selections must be received by the second Friday in August for the Fall semester and the second Friday in December for the Spring semester. Please check your calendars as dates may vary.
