Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)


Image: Request InformationCT State Certified Instructors lead students through a semester-long course focusing on patient assessment and emergency care of the pre-hospital patient. This certificate program offers students the knowledge and skills necessary to provide pre-hospital emergency medical care to those who are sick or injured. The course also prepares students for the two-part Emergency Medical Technician National Registry exam. This course meets education requirements established by the State of Connecticut and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.

Course instruction will cover:

  • CPR
  • General pharmacology
  • Respiratory emergencies
  • Cardiovascular emergencies
  • Musculoskeletal, head, and spine trauma
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Ambulance operations
  • Hazardous materials
  • OB/GYN emergencies
  • Scene safety
  • Emergency medical techniques for children

Fall 2012: Wednesday, Sept. 5-Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012

Classes meet Wednesdays from 6 p.m.-10 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Instructors include Alex Krshisezki, Officers Patrick Cleary, Karen Panza and Patrick Jacquot all of the Department of Safety at Fairfield University. All instructors are State of Connecticut certified EMS-Instructors, American Heart Association CPR Instructors including AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) and First Aid. Other guest lectures from the medical field will make periodic visits.
