Engaging Student Learning through High Impact Practices: Join Dean of Academic Engagement Dr. Elizabeth Boquet and Dean of Student Development Dr. Deborah Cady Melzer as they discuss how Fairfield University has embarked on new strategic initiatives that integrate students' living and learning experiences. Through high impact practices, students are encouraged to connect their curricular and co-curricular learning in order to develop their intellectual, spiritual, and cultural selves. During this presentation, learn from the deans about the initiatives available to students that empower integrative learning.

The First Year Transition: Presented by Area Coordinators who live in the first-year residence halls, Tara Rupp, Bonnie Nimmo, and Melisa Jaquez. Your son or daughter has made it through the first several weeks - what's happened, what should they expect next, and what should they be doing differently? Let the Area Coordinators share what life has been like in the residence halls and the trends they've noticed thus far, along with some of the things parents can do to support their student as they continue to transition to life at Fairfield.

Alumni Admissions Volunteer Workshop: Presented by Assistant Director of Admissions Lindsay Slattum, and Matthew Pitucco '98, Alumni Association board member and Director of Admissions & Marketing Director at Immaculata High School in Somerville, NJ. Learn how you can become involved with the admissions process by holding prospective student interviews, hosting regional receptions, representing Fairfield at local college fairs, and more as a FaVoR (Fairfield Volunteer Recruiters) participant!

Study Abroad: Equipping Students for the 'Real World': As the global nature of our economy and society reach further and further into our routines, it is crucial that students who study abroad receive more than a familiarization tour of great cities. By linking major(s) and prior language studies to the locale, Fairfield study abroad programs seek to deliver experiences that are robust academically, engaged in the host community, and provide a deep understanding of culture and context in order to equip participants with the intellectual and cultural skills to navigate a diverse and changing environment.

Digital Mapping the World: GIS (Geographical Information System) at Fairfield: The world of digital mapping has exploded from Mapquest to Google Earth to maps on cell phones. For over two decades, Fairfield University faculty have incorporated digital mapping into course and student research. Dr. Schlichting, a pioneer of GIS at Fairfield, will demonstrate the mapping software and digital maps available for use in the classroom and in research.

Domestic Violence: Warning signs, Understanding the Cycle of Violence, and Available Resources: A panel of Marriage and Family Therapists working in local community agencies will discuss the impact of domestic violence on families and children as well as provide information on local resources. Students and professionals will also have an opportunity to ask questions on best practices for working with this population.

Sports and Economics: Join Dr. Phil Lane in a conversation about the intersection of the dismal science (economics) and the wonderful world of sports, or how sports makes a great industry to study many economics fields including public finance and labor. The focus will be on the professional sports, but some of the challenges faced by colleges and universities will be explored.

Living, Leading, and Believing Together: Student Leadership Development at Fairfield: Fred J. Kuo, Associate Director of University Activities and Dr. Janelle Perron Jennings, Director of New Student Programs, will talk about leadership development as a key part of the student experience at Fairfield University. Students learn everything from communication skills to event planning by participating in over 80 student-run organizations and initiatives. Discover what leadership looks like at Fairfield and the many ways that students can become involved during their time on campus.

An Archaeologist's Eye: Gallery Talk: Dr. Katherine Schwab, associate professor of Art History, will give a Gallery Talk on a selection of drawings and photographs in the exhibition, "An Archaeologist's Eye: Photographs and Parthenon Drawings of Katherine Schwab." The part that culture and underlying neurophysiological processes influence have in negotiations and conflict management will be addressed in this presentation.
