Symptom Management in
End-of-life Care

The Connecticut Coalition of End of Life Nurse Educators hosts symposiums to help nurses, nursing assistants, chaplains, and social workers deal with issues that surround end-of-life care. The next session, "Symptom Management in End of Life Care" will be held on Sept. 16 at Fairfield University.

The program will focus on the physical and psychological symptoms often experienced by those toward the end of life, says Dr. Jean Lange, graduate program director and symposium coordinator. Minimizing pain and suffering through assessment, effective management, and recognition of barriers to treatment will be discussed in depth; participants will also learn methods of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic symptom control. Nursing participants earn 3.6 CEU credits for the day-long program.

The program is $20 and is open to anyone interested in attending. To register, click on the brochure or contact Patricia Trotta, RN, at the American Cancer Society, (203) 379-4763 or Dr. Jean Lange for more details.
