The
Robin Kanarek '96 Learning Resource Center
provides a simulated hospital environment where students learn and practice basic to advanced nursing skills. It houses state-of-the-art medical equipment, simulators, practice modules, and audio visual materials to augment student knowledge and skill. It includes a fully equipped Intensive Care area complete with cardiac monitoring devices, a defibrillator, a ventilator, and a code cart. Four other acute care units contain hospital beds and the equipment necessary to perform physical assessments and to learn other basic nursing skills. The Resource Center is staffed by a full time Director as well as supportive student assistants.

There is a Human Patient Simulator, "SimMan" that is used to create scenarios that simulate patient care in various settings. The use of simulation-based teaching helps students to integrate nursing skills, critical thinking, and communication, in order to practice evidence-based nursing care in a risk-free, hands on environment. This enhances their self confidence and performance in the clinical area while working with actual patients.
