Withdrawal from the University (undergraduate students)
Students can voluntarily withdraw from Fairfield University through their academic dean's office. A student's voluntary withdrawal will only be granted under the following conditions:
- The student is not subject to the student conduct process, nor is the student subject to academic dismissal due to insufficient progress or excessive absence.
- The student must discuss his or her intentions with the academic dean’s office.
- The student has settled all financial obligations to the University.
Students may request a withdrawal for medical reasons. Requests for medical withdrawals must be made to and approved by the Office of the Dean of Students and demonstrate a compelling medical need, endorsed by the Health Center or Counseling Center and supported by appropriate medical personnel. Students cannot withdraw for medical reasons to avoid pending academic or student conduct issues. A medical withdrawal implies that the student would otherwise continue as a matriculated student were if not for a specific medical situation, and for this reason, a student who withdraws for medical reasons may be limited in terms of academic credits that can be earned at another institution and transferred towards a Fairfield degree.
Students may be involuntarily withdrawn by the Office of the Dean of Students for disciplinary or other reasons such as concern for student welfare or failure to provide required documentation. Students who fail to meet minimum academic requirements or progress towards a degree may be withdrawn for academic reasons by the appropriate academic dean's office. In addition, students with outstanding financial obligations to the University may be withdrawn by the Office of the University Bursar. |
